Debra Harvey- February 2012

"When I started Bikram yoga back in Februrary 2011, I weighted 280 pounds and my goal was to lose 100 pounds. At the end of just one year I lost 100 pounds!!!! It has changed me in so many ways physically and mentally. I also gained a passion for Bikram yoga, it has became a way of life for me. I noticed a big change in myself after I did the 30 day challenge back in August. It made me believe in myself and know that I can do anything that I set my mind to. It has changed my life forever I am so grateful for all the great teachers at Bikram Yoga Summerlin! They have helped me so much. Thank you, Debra Harvey."

Terry- January 2012-- Together we raised over $1000 for Three-Square Food Bank!

Like so many other members I was told about yoga and the good things it could do for me. I had a serious back injury last year and it was recommended to have surgery. Having had surgery before I was reluctant to agree and instead I continued to be treated by my chiropractor, Dr. Rhett Beaman. He is a member of bikram summerlin yoga and he suggested I try yoga to see if there could be improvement.
My first class was not so great as I left during the class but came back and finished. My pride was tarnished but my determination remained intact so I came back again a few days later. I know I have heard come back as soon as you can but I took some time to decide to try again. The next time went very well and I finished.. I have been a member ever since. Bull dog determination kinda kicked in and I decided to really give it a real effort and bought a three month membership. I was now bound and committed and I was very determined to come back and really give it a go.
I have talked to many who have had surgery, health issues, and even some with a similar back condition. No one I have talked to has had surgery after spending time at Summerlin Bikram Yoga because they founda real positive change by doing yoga on a consistent basis.
While surgery is still an option I have found working out, doing yoga often, and seeing the chiropractor has allowed me to have some improvement with the quality of life.
As I have become a part of the summerlin yoga family I have talked with the teachers and fellow members and I am convinced that I am doing some great things for my health. While being toward the high end of the members in age I have found that it is never too late to get the benefits of bikram yoga.It is part of my day and that the classes are now something I look forward to. I do not know how much improvement I will eventually find with my back injury but I know that doing nothing to improve my health is a very bad choice.
There are many yoga movements which I have needed tips on from the teachers and some I just cannot do. Bikram yoga has been a transforming habit for me as I found that it has improved my desire to be healthy and have good eating habits. Before class I eat very little and after class sugar or salty food doesn' taste good.
I am very grateful to my chiropractor for getting me to try yoga and for the encouragement I have received from fellow members and the teachers. I can only speak for myself and I believe that I have made a real positive life style change by making bikram yoga part of my life. I regret that it took a back injury to find yoga but the course of one's life has many choices and I am determined to make bikram yoga the center piece in my determined effort to be as healthy as possible.
May the force be with us all,
Terry----
